We are located in Twain Harte, a delightfully little mountain village resort
nestled in a little valley off of Highway 108, 11 miles outside of the
historic Mother Lode Gold County town of Sonora. This popular resort
community is plays host to an area rich with indoor and outdoor recreational
opportunities. It offers great food, intriguing shops, a beautiful
9-hole golf course, and supplies for your recreational activities.
Sierra trailheads, pristine lakes and streams are available nearby for
hiking, fishing, boating or just sunbathing. Many forest roads are available
for mountain biking, walking and snowshoeing. The Sierra geology is
popular with rock climbing enthusiasts. Enjoy horseback rides and pack
trips into the Emigrant Wilderness. Downhill skiing, snowboarding and
alpine skiing is available at nearby Dodge Ridge, and an ice skating rink
can be found in Long Barn. Yosemite is a short day trip away.
The area offers fascinating Gold Rush history, antique stores, fine shops and boutiques, superb dining, three excellent repertory theaters. Adjacent to Sonora are Columbia and Railtown State Parks, a preserved gold rush town and a railroad/ movie-making museum
We are ideally situated for both vacationers and weekend visitors.
Manzanita House Bed & Breakfast was built around 1951, and this large
mountain cabin has the history of being a chinchilla farm, a popular enterprise
in the 1950’s. During the late 1970’s, the chinchilla barns were
converted into guest rooms and “Twain Harte’s Bed and Breakfast” was
operated during the 80’s. We purchased the property in 2001 and made
several improvements, reopening in 2003. As avid photographers, we moved
to this area because of its beauty. Our walls are covered with original photographs
from areas of our travels, including our favorite, Yosemite National Park.
The 5 comfortable guest rooms have queen-sized beds, four rooms with in-suite baths. The large common game room has an extensive library with varied reading material. In the game room, the pool table, card table, or the board games allow for friendly competitions. We have a small video library (nearby video rentals also) which can be watched in the game room or in the main living room,
We serve a full breakfast in the sun-filled porch or on the deck during warm weather. We will work with you if you have dietary restrictions. A typical breakfast includes:
We are dog-friendly, and there is a dog in-residence, who is very sociable. We have gained a lot of knowledge of the area and will be happy to assist you with plans or reservations to fully enjoy the activities that our area has to offer.
